Some of us bound into the new year full of optimism and vigour, seemingly unscarred by the effects of Yuletide over-indulgence. Others feel plain knackered.
For those in the latter camp, a timely spa break may be just the thing to overcome that jaded feeling and give a much-needed boost.
Luckily the January Sales extend to country house hotels and some have attractive deals at present where you can relax in style and enjoy a massage or rejuvenating treatment or two.
Throughout the month Fishmore Hall in Ludlow offers half-price stays for two nights or more with a 20% discount on spa treatments. B&B for two now costs £75 per night –  saving £150 a night on standard doubles and a whopping £350 on luxury doubles. All are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Fishmore Hall guests enjoy their Nspa treatments in a new rustic cabin in the woods overlooking the Shropshire countryside.
From January 20 Budock Vean near Falmouth offers a two-night Runaway Retreat which features two 90-minute treatments from a choice of full-body massage, head or foot massage, and facial. Until March 7 the break costs £228 per person and also includes breakfast and dinner, unlimited golf, swimming and sauna, outdoor hot tub, tennis and snooker, and a 10% discount on additional treatments.
