Wimbledon Weeks

It is one of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments (Majors), the others being the Australian Open, French Open and US Open. Wimbledon is the only Major still played on grass, the game’s original surface, which gave the game its name of “lawn tennis”.
The tournament takes place over two weeks, 24th June – 7th July, culminating with the Ladies’ and Gentlemen’s Singles Final, scheduled for the second Saturday and Sunday respectively. Each year five major events are contested, as well as four junior events and three invitational events.
If you have not been lucky enough to get tickets this year, don’t worry, we have come up with a few options for you.
The first one is stay at home, sounds obvious – right? But what could be better than a lovely glass of Pimms, a few strawberries and the sound of the tennis balls pounding the strings.
Our second option, and my favorite, is to book yourself into one of our luxury boutique hotels and watch the tennis in style and comfort.
Waterton Park Hotel, Wakefield, have a fabulous offer running at the moment. The Prosecco and Strawberries offer, which in my book is exactly what you should be drinking and eating whilst watching Wimbledon. The offer includes executive double room, a bottle of prosecco, strawberries and chocolates, dinner in the bridgewalk restaurant, full English breakfast, full use of the Health and Leisure facilities all for just £190 (includes VAT).
Talbot Hall, Malton, are serving a very “Wimbledon-esk” Cream Tea, in the form of the Talbot Cream Tea and Pimm’s. Choose to sit in the drawing room, atrium or, when the weather is mild, outside on the terrace.
You can choose one of the following treats to enjoy while you relax in wonderful surroundings:
Cream Tea – pot of tea for two, two scones each with jam and Yorkshire clotted cream – £7.50 each
Jug of Pimm’s – share a jug of the quintessentially English summer drink for just £15 (approx two glasses per person)
Talbot Cream Tea and Pimm’s – two scones with jam and Yorkshire clotted cream plus a jug of Pimm’s – £20 per couple
Whatever option you choose to catch this year’s action, we’ll all be hoping that Andy Murray can add his second major title to his list of achievements and that Laura Robson and Heather Watson can put in a good showing in the Ladie’s draw.
