Once considered the roughest pub in Argyll when it was said that ‘no crime or misdemeanour was considered serious enough to get barred from the Cairnbaan Hotel’, Cairnbaan is now delightful and stylish hotel with a wonderful reputation for our almost totally locally sourced food and considered among the friendliest hotel in Scotland. Situated on the Crinan Canal Cairnbaan was built as a Coaching Inn in 1801, the hotel was needed to service the requirements of the fishing boats, ferries and puffers, which were avoiding the sometimes-perilous journey around the Mull of Kintyre by using the canal, these days the puffers and ferries are long gone but still the canal is busy with around 3000 pleasure boats a year going through. Although 200 years old the hotel has a modern feel with vibrant colours and fabrics and lovely artwork produced by local artist, also the hotel has a friendly and vibrant atmosphere being a particular favourite of locals, fishermen, sailors and tourists alike. Our fair is best described as modern Scottish with a very strong emphasis on local produce especially Seafood for which there is an abundance locally and considered by many the best in the world.
